2012 Northwest Region Winner: Danni Beer

The Beer farm and ranch is located in the semi-arid climate of north-western South Dakota. Some of the land is suitable for farming and some is better utilized by cattle. The Beers raise winter and spring wheat, corn, sunflowers, flax, millet and hay in a no-till rotation system that was first started in the early 90’s.  They also graze Angus cows on the land not good enough to farm using a rotational grazing system and wean Angus and Charolais cross calves from them each fall.

Danni's Nomination: Hi, I’m Bailie and I would like to nominate my mom, Danni Beer, for the Farm Mom of the Year. My three siblings (19, 17, 2 years) and I (14) are blessed to have the most supportive mom in the country. She supports us in our faith, academic and athletic growth by encouraging us to work hard and being there to coach us on. Mom has actively helped with 4-H beef projects, fair preparations and shows since 2001. Mom does everything to make the farm run smoothly from bookwork to harvesting. She works hard for the 500+ head Angus/Charolais beef herd by fencing, calving, branding, vaccinating while continuing to increase the herd size. She also works side by side with dad on the 8,000+ acres of corn, sunflowers, flax, wheat and alfalfa.

Her passion for the family farm led to her support of Dad’s award of Outstanding Young Farmers of America in 2009. Mom’s service extends beyond our family farm to the surrounding communities and agriculture industry. She serves on the Lemmon FFA Ag advisory board, school board of education, Church Circle leader and voluntarily coaches elementary basketball. She supports and actively participates in community events like Lemmon Junior Livestock Show and Sale, Relay for Life, and Corson County Fair. Mom also has a degree in Agricultural Education from South Dakota State University. She continues to share her passion of agriculture by membership in the U.S. Cattlemen’s Association Region X Director, Stock Growers, and Farmers Union. In 2010 she was appointed by the USDA Secretary of Agriculture to the Cattlemen’s Beef Board which is in charge of research and promotion of the $1/head beef checkoff. Mom has taken her passion overseas to Australia to talk to the Australian Beef Association on behalf of the US Cattle Producers.
